Prafulla Parlewar, PhD
Professor of Urban Planning
Dr. Prafulla Parlewar is Professor and Head of the Department of Urban Planning at the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), New Delhi, India. He holds a Ph.D. in Urban Planning from Chiba University, Japan, a Master's in Urban Planning from SPA New Delhi, and a Bachelor of Architecture from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur. His international professional and academic experience spans the USA, Japan, the UK, Mexico, Vietnam, South Korea, India, Morocco, Slovenia, France, and Myanmar. He has held fellowships at Harvard University’s Spatial Data Lab (SDL) and Meijo University, Japan, undertaking research in artificial intelligence at both institutions.
At SPA New Delhi, Dr. Parlewar teaches Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI) as an institute-wide subject for students across all branches, integrating artificial intelligence and spatial analytics into planning and architecture education. He received the Government of Japan’s MEXT Scholarship for his doctoral studies from 2003 to 2007. His research, consultancy, and teaching focus on AI applications in urban planning, compact and smart cities, and data-driven approaches to urban development.
