Our
Projects
Our projects explore the use of GeoAI, machine learning, and emerging technologies in urban planning. The research focuses on compact cities, urban form, walkability, city imageability, high-speed corridors, and quantum computing to support sustainable, inclusive, and data-driven cities.
Real-time AI Model for Compact City Management in Japan
Real-time artificial intelligence for compact city management serves to manage and monitor urban development and transformation. As the population declines in Japan, the urban areas contract, prompting the implementation of compact city planning strategies aimed at enhancing the quality of life. The model uses an advanced neural network model to monitor compact cities in Japan in real time. The model uses Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for predicting and forecasting the various issues in compact cities.
Deep Learning Model for Public Space Pattern Language
The deep learning model develops a real-time deep learning model for pattern language by using data from OSM, Google, and other sources. Publication: P. Parlewar (2025), Deep Learning Model for Public Space Pattern Language, The 21st Conference of International Development and Urban Planning
Mobile-Based Community Participation in Smart Cities
In order to improve community involvement in smart cities, this project investigates the integration of mobile platforms. It suggests a data-driven, scalable model for inclusive urban governance using participatory technologies. Publication: P. Parlewar (2021). implementing a mobile-based approach to community engagement in smart cities. In Data Analytics and Machine Intelligence for Sustainable Future Smart Cities. Springer, Studies in Computational Intelligence
Platform Capitalism in Urban Land Management
This work presents a novel model using platform capitalism principles to optimize land management in smart cities, linking digital governance with urban development policy. Publication: Parlewar, P. (2024, July). Platform capitalism based land management model for smart cities. International Symposium on Spatiotemporal Data Science, Virginia Tech & George Mason University.
AI-Infused GIS for Urban and Transport Planning
A practical approach of how AI-integrated GIS platforms can enhance transport modeling and spatial planning across Indian cities. Presentation: Parlewar, P. (2022, November 7). Artificial Intelligence infused GIS in urban and transport planning. ITPI West Zone Conference, Maharashtra.
OpenAI and the Imageability of Cities
The project investigates how OpenAI tools can regenerate the perceptual identity of cities, drawing from Kevin Lynch’s theory of imageability, with implications for urban design. Presentation: Parlewar, P. (2025). Application of OpenAI for regenerating imageability of cities. Young Scholar Symposium on Spatiotemporal Data Science, Spatial Data Lab, Harvard University
OpenAI and Pattern Language in Campus Redevelopment
This project explores how AI can support campus design by learning and applying pattern languages for spatial redevelopment. Publication: Parlewar, P. (2024, December 22).
